THE PLAN!
THE WAY!

We know God only by Jesus Christ.  Without this mediator, all communion with God is taken away;

through Jesus Christ we know God...in proof of Jesus Christ we have prophecies, which are solid and

palpable proofs.  And these prophesies, being accomplished and proved true by the event, mark the

certainty of these truths and, therefore, the divinity of Christ.  In Him, then, and through Him, we know

God.  Apart from Him, and without the Scripture, without original sin, without a necessary mediator

promised and come, we cannot absolutely prove God, nor teach right doctrine and right morality. But

through Jesus Christ, and in Jesus Christ, we prove God, and teach morality and doctrine.  Jesus Christ is,

then, the true God of men.  But we know at the same time our wretchedness; for this God is none other

than the Savior of our wretchedness.  So we can only know God well by knowing our iniquities.

Therefore those who have known God, without knowing their wretchedness, have not glorified Him, but

have glorified themselves.  Not only do we know God by Jesus Christ alone, but we know ourselves only

by Jesus Christ.  We know life and death only through Jesus Christ. Apart from Jesus Christ, we do not

know what is our life, nor our death, nor God, nor ourselves.                        - Blaise Pascal (1623-1662)

One of our greatest priviledges as human beings is that we bear the imprint of our Maker.  We are created in the image of God, and a key aspect of this image is volition of free choice.  This is what seperates us from the rest of creation.  God could have created us to simply follow animal instincts.  He could have also created us as robotic automations to fulfill His will.  Instead, He "took a chance" and gave us this aspect of His own nature.  He chose to do so because He knew that the deepest relationships form only when free choice is involved.  One of the reasons we study God's character is that we see how aspects of His character (love, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, etc.) motivate Him to take certain actions.  For example, ". . . . .  God so loved the world that He gave . . . ." (John 3:16)  This great verse shows that He gave His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins out of a motive of love for us.  Having strong motives also drives the work of evangelism.   ~ Danny Lehmann ~
